Nourseothricin (sulfate) is a broad-spectrum polycationic antibiotic that destroys the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. It functions by inhibiting protein biosynthesis in prokaryotic cells and significantly suppressing the growth of eukaryotes such as fungi. It is a dominant selective marker for Fonsecaea pedrosoi and can be utilized as a selective marker for a diverse range of organisms, including bacteria, yeast, filamentous fungi, and plant cells.
